Virtue Epistemology

Virtue epistemology is a theory of knowledge that focuses on intellectual virtues and achievements in the process of knowledge acquisition, rather than largely external features. It is essentially a combination of the ideas of epistemology and the theory of virtue ethics.

Among the forerunners in virtue epistemology is Linda Zagzebski, who advocates a view more closely aligned with the virtue theory of Aristotle.

Christian philosopher Alvin Plantinga also accepts a notion of virtue epistemology in his theory of warrant, stating that one was reason to claim knowledge when one’s intellect is functioning as it was designed to.
